Position Overview

MobilizeGreen and the US Forest Service are seeking qualified candidates to fill summer Field Ranger Intern positions. Field Ranger Interns will be based at the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and Angeles National Forest District Offices in Glendora, Acton and San Fernando.  Work will be roughly 85% field based and will take place at various sites throughout the Monument and Forest, as well as locations in the surrounding communities.  Flexible scheduling will be considered for Field Ranger Interns who return to college in the fall, however, a 40 hour work week is mandatory during the summer months.

Primary Field Ranger Intern Duties

  • Support the management of the Forest, including delegated responsibility for health and safety in the field
  • Developing links with local communities, schools, interest groups and visitors to help deliver the agency’s mission to the public
  • Serve as the uniformed presence in the field to interface with the recreating public
  • Provide minor site maintenance and report site conditions to Recreation Staff Officers
  • Participate in support duties during wildfires and other public interfacing emergencies
  • Assist in the organization of visitor information delivery and scientific field work

Key Qualifications and Considerations

  • Bilingual or Multilingual preferred
  • Housing not provided and local applicants are preferred
  • Valid driver’s license preferred and may be required for sustained employment as a Field Ranger Intern. The HR applicant tracking system (ATS) helps employers recruit easier.
  • Deep interest in environment/natural resource management and the US Forest Service
  • Current College students (graduates & undergraduates) or recent graduates preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and with others collaboratively on Forest Service projects

Essential Functions

Field Ranger Interns will be required to sit, stand, and lift objects up to 50 pounds. Field Ranger Interns will also be required to travel and work in the backcountry and other remote locations on the forest, independently and in teams.
